Building Control

Submitting your application
Submitting your application - How do I apply?

Applying for Building Regulations - What do I need to?
This section provides you with a guide to assist you in your submission.  The application forms (pdf format) and guidance notes, including fees are available to download.  Click here to access our online forms and guidance section.  Alternatively, forms are available in Microsoft Word .doc format, on the Nottinghamshire Building Control website.

To help us determine whether your proposal requires an application, please complete and return our enquiry formRemember, if you would like further advice please contact us.

When applying for Building Regulations, you must also send two copies of a site location plan, 1:1250 or 1:2500.  The site location plan must clearly show the application site.

Full Plans Application
This can be used for any type of project, domestic or commercial and requires you to submit plans of your proposal for assessment by us.  You, or your agent, will be advised if amendments are required to your scheme in order to keep to the Building Regulations and you will receive an approval notice when the plans are satisfactory.

Building Notice
This should only be used to make an application relating to a house, flat or other residential property.  The Building Notice can be used for new building works, alterations, extensions or changes of use to any residential building.  Formal plans need not be submitted with this option, although a copy of any drawing which you may have can enable us to advise you on compliance with the Building Regulations. Receipt of your Building Notice will be acknowledged in writing and you may start work 48 hours after your notice is received by this Authority.

It is suggested that a Building Notice is only used for small residential projects, as no formal plans' approval notice is issued with this type of application.

What fees/charges do I need to pay?
The majority of Building Regulation Applications are subject to charges, click here for our fees.  If you are unsure, please contact us.

Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
From October 2004 the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) places a legal duty on all those who provide services to the public to make reasonable adjustments to the physical environment of their premises (retailers, cafes, leisure departments, cinemas, health services and banks etc) to ensure that disbaled people can access their goods, services and facilities.  They need timely, accurate and authoritive advice and information to help them meet these duties.

Click here to enter the Disability Rights Commission website where you will find further information to assist you with regard to planning applications and building work.
