Local Development Framework

The Local Development Framework, which comprises a folder of planning policy documents, is required by recent government legislation that has comprehensively changed the planning system.

Guidance on the new planning system has been published by the Department for Communities and Local Government or, alternatively, see this interactive Guide to Local Development Frameworks by the Planning Portal.  

As each planning policy document is adopted as part of the Local Development Framework, elements of the existing Local Plan will be replaced.  When all documents have been adopted the Local Plan will no longer be part of the development plan.

Should you wish to register as a Local Development Framework consultee this can be done through the Council's Limehouse consultation tool. Once registered consultees can make comments or representations against Development Plan Documents and Supplementary Planning Documents as part of their preperation.

Core Strategy Development Plan Document

The District Council, as part of the production of the Local Development Framework for the area, is in the process of preparing the Core Strategy Development Plan Document. The Publication Core Strategy has now been published for a period of public representation from 20th April 2010 to 1st June 2010. Local Development Scheme

The Local Development Scheme (LDS), having been submitted to the Secretary of State, was approved by the Government Office for the East Midlands on the 23rd December 2009, and formally came into effect following the Cabinet meeting of the 14th January 2010. For any further details, please contact Stephen King, Planning Policy Manager on 01636 655856 or by email on steve.king@nsdc.info.

The purpose of the document is to set out what documents will make up the District Council's new planning policy framework (the Local Development Framework) and the timetable for their preparation and review.

Statement of Community Involvement

Our Statement of Community Involvement was adopted by the Council on the 9th March 2006, following the publication of an Inspector's Report on the 1st March 2006.

The Statement sets out our methods for consulting the public on the Local Development Framework and Planning Applications.

Sustainability Appraisal

We will undertake Sustainability Appraisal on all Local Development Documents that form part of Local Development Framework.

The appraisal determines the likely significant effects that policies and proposals may have on the wider environment and help the preparation of documents that promote sustainable forms of development.

The most recent appraisal undertaken and consulted upon was the Sustainability Appraisal of the Core Strategy:Options Report.

Issues Report

We published the Newark and Sherwood Local Development Framework Issues Report as a first step in consulting on the contents of the Local Development Framework.

Supplementary Planning Documents

The Shopfronts and Advertisements Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) was adopted on 28th May 2009 after a six week consultation period.  The document forms part of the Newark and Sherwood Local Development Framework.  It is also a material consideration when assessing planning applications within the District.

The Conversion of Traditional Rural Buildings Supplementary Planning Document was published on Monday 1 August 2005 for a six week period of consultation.  The consultation period finished on Monday 12 September 2005.

The Extension to Dwellings Supplementary Planning Document was published on Monday 15 August for a six week period of consultation.  The consultation period finished on Wednesday 28 August 2005.

The Developer Contributions Supplementary Planning Document was adopted on 23rd October 2008 and forms part of the Newark and Sherwood Local Development Framework. The document forms a material consideration when assessing planning applications within the District.
