Submitting your application
Submitting your application - what do I require?

This section is principally aimed at applicants wanting to submit an application for the following application types.

Householder applications:

Full planning permission;
Listed building consent;
Conservation area consent;
Advertisement
consent;
Hedgerow Removal Notice;
 and
Tree works (including trees protected by a Tree Preservation Order and Trees in Conservation Areas);

Whether you decide to submit your application online or through the post, links to all relevant application forms, scale of planning fees and documentation to assist you with your submission can be found on this page.

Publishing of planning applications for public inspection, including on our website:

Given the statutory status of the Register of Planning Applications, relevant regulations and the public interest in making information available, it is appropriate for us to make a wide range of information and documents available for inspection both at Kelham Hall and on our website (note: applicants are not required to disclose any proposed security arrangements).  Therefore, please note that the information you provide in the application form and in any accompanying documents (e.g. application form, certificate of ownership, plans and drawings etc) will be published on our e-planning website (external link).

Applying for planning permission online:

The Council is keen to encourage the submission of online applications.  In partnership with the Planning Portal, you can apply to us for planning permission online (external link).
The service allows you to create your application and pay the planning fee using a valid credit or debit card.  When completed, your application is sent directly to us along with any supporting plans/drawings you submit.  We are happy to accept your application form only online if you do not have the facility to attached your drawings and additional information.

To ensure the smooth processing of your application we recommend that you attach your drawings as pdf (Adobe Acrobat) files and that all drawings include the paper size (e.g. A0, A1, A2 etc); the relevant scale at that size (e.g. 1:50 or 1:100); scale bars (in metres) for or key dimensions.  Finally, if the maximum size for a single attachment is greater than 5Mb, please supply this on CD or DVD.

If you experience any problems while submitting your application online, please contact the Planning Portal direct at support@planningportal.gov.uk
or telephone 0117 372 8200 (office hours: 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday).

Applying for planning permission using paper forms:

Step One: You will need to obtain and complete a set of application forms (commonly known as 1APP).  These are available by:

Download from the Planning Portal e-forms cabinet, click here (external link);
Collect from the Planning Reception; or
By telephone 01636 655860.

You will also receive a set of guidance notes and ownership certificate/s.

Each form contains detail listings of what information is required as part of your submission, referred to as 'National' requirements.  Along with this, we have provided a list of 'Local' requirements, outlining additional information required by us.  To ensure your application contains all information required by us (inlcuding forms, drawings and supporting information), please refer to our validation page for further guidance.

The forms can be completed by you or an agent (an agent may charge a fee).

Step Two:
All applications must be accompanied by a set of site location plans at 1:2500 or 1:1250 scale.  These can be obtained or ordered from Planning Reception and requests can be made by email or telephone 01636 655860. We do require payment first before forwarding them on (cheques must be made payable to 'Newark and Sherwood District Council). The price varies depending on the number you require (see table below).  Most applications require 4 copies of the site location plan, see our validation section for further information.

Number of copies Scale 1:500 Scale 1:1250 Scale 1:2500 (Rural) Scale 1:2500 (Rural)
 1 £15.50 £19.50 £23.00 £44.00
 2 £16.00 £20.00 £23.50 £44.50
 3 £16:50 £20.50 £24.00 £45.00
 4 £17.00 £21.00 £24.50 £45.50
 5 £17.50 £21.50 £25.00 £46.00
 6 £18.00 £22.00 £25.50 £46.50
 7 £18.50 £22.50 £26.00 £47.00
 8 £19.00 £23.00 £26.50 £47.50
 9 £19.50 £23.50 £27.00 £48.00
 10 £20.00 £24.00 £27.50 £48.50

Purchases of plans at 2 or more differing scales will be discounted by £8.00 per additional scale, for example, when purchasing 3 x 1:1250 (£20.50) and 3 x 1:500 (£16.50) separately, total cost equates to £37.00.  When purchasing together, customers receive a discount of £8.00, therefore the total for the above example equates to £29.00.

Fees valid from 1st October 2007.

Step Three: All applications must be accompanied by appropriate scale drawings of the proposal.  The guidance notes specify the type you need depending on the nature of the proposal.

Step Four: All applications must be accompanied by the relevant fee, cheques should be made payable to 'Newark & Sherwood District Council'.  The fees are detailed on the 'Scales of Planning Application Fees', click here for further details regarding fees.  These fees are set by Central Government not the Council.  You can also use the Planning Portal online fee calculator, click here (external link).

Step Five:
When you have all the information (refer to both the 'National' and 'Local' requirements lists) you can submit your application. You should then receive an acknowledgement letter.

Disability Discrimination Act (DDA)
From October 2004 the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) places a legal duty on all those who provide services to the public to make reasonable adjustments to the physical environment of their premises (retailers, cafes, leisure departments, cinemas, health services and banks etc) to ensure that disabled people can access their goods, services and facilities.  They need timely, accurate and authoritive advice and information to help them meet these duties.

Remember if your application is incomplete in any way, the application cannot be registered.  This will therefore delay the procedure.

If you require a hard copy of any of the information on this page please contact Planning Services on 01636 655860 or email planning@nsdc.info. There may be a charge for this information, click here for further information.
